PALO ALTO, Calif.—Volkswagen of America, Inc. announced that its Electronic Research Laboratory (ERL) will debut a 2006 Passat showcasing the very near future of mobile consumer connectivity. The vehicle is on display this week at the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) automotive aftermarket exposition in Las Vegas, Nevada. The ERL has been in collaboration with Intel to develop open standards for connecting mobile electronics devices to vehicles. The display Passat features Ultra Mobile PC integration, providing a consumer with “on the go” connectivity to a variety of digital media. The vehicle reinforces the consumer benefits of mobile connectivity, and serves as a unified industry call for the promotion of open standards.
“We’re delighted to be working with Intel, as they share our vision of the potential of open standards,” said Parag Jain, Senior Project Engineer at the ERL. “The consumer will benefit when their vehicle allows for mobile connectivity across a variety of media platforms. Since the SEMA show is where automotive manufacturers and aftermarket firms come together to display their innovation, we felt it was the right venue to debut our Passat.”
