TDI on hiatus until 2008

If you were thinking about getting that Jetta TDI, don't think and just get it because your next chance is in 2008. Volkswagen will be sending dealerships the last few TDI-equipped Jettas and will not be producing anymore until 2008.

The year long hiatus is in preparation of the new common rail diesels that, when released, will be available in all 50 states. Something the current TDI cannot say for itself.

With almost a quarter of Jetta sales a TDI, not having any diesel offerings for a year will surely hurt Jetta sales by a bit. The Touareg's V10 TDI, on the other hand, will remain on the market.
