Award ceremony in Berlin: Volkswagen AG wins 23 prizes

Berlin / Wolfsburg, 28 November 2005 - This year's "Auto Trophy" produced some remarkable results: Volkswagen Group products were voted onto the podium 23 times by the readers of "Auto" magazine.

The "Auto Trophy 2005" awards were presented at a grand gala yesterday evening. Hostess Barbara Schöneberger and over 300 invited guests saw only one winner: Volkswagen AG. The Group dominated the ceremony with 23 awards for products of the Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Lamborghini, Bentley and Bugatti brands.

It was the 18th time that "Auto" magazine had asked its readers to vote for their personal favourites. The response was enormous: over 90,000 votes were received. The Volkswagen brand alone picked up three first and six second places. The Fox won the category "Best-value-for-money car". The Golf and the Touran both won their respective categories.

The Audi A6 and A8 won the categories "Upper class" and "Luxury class". The new Q7 achieved first place in the category "Off-road vehicles". Audi also won the award for the best advertising.

Besides the overall categories, prizes were also awarded for the most popular imported vehicles. Here, the Skoda Octavia and the Seat Altea won the "Compact car" and "Minvan" classes.

This dominance demonstrates the success of Volkswagen AG's latest product offensive. Moreover, it also reflects current Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) statistics, which put the Group in first place in seven of the ten categories.
