VW look set to try to attract Mercedes customers with a coupe style Passat, codenamed the CC, which will rival the Mercedes CLS. The unnamed four door coupe will be manufactured at the VW factory at Emden in Northern Germany and is set for a 2008 launch.
Rumours have been rife for a while now that VW would add a coupe to their line-up, and these rumours were confirmed in a VW media press release for the Speciality Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas. In the media release VW USA admitted that a ?2+2 sports coupe? was in the pipeline following the release of the EOS Coupe Cabriolet and the development of new technology for the VW Range.
Although no details of the vehicle itself have been released it is expected that the Coupe will have features of the new model VW Passat and the new Eos Coupe Cabriolet, and will have the underpinnings for the 2006 Jetta. It is also expected that three engines will be available in the coupe with the 3.2 litre V6 engine of the Golf R32 and the top end of the model line-up. The VW coupe is also set to be significantly cheaper than the CLS whilst offering all the technology and great performance you would expect from a Volkswagen.
