Volkswagen and Apple talk about iCar

Volkswagen and Apple and supposedly talking to each other about possibly making an "iCar" sometime in the future. Martin Winterkorn met with Apple CEO Steve Jobs in California to talk about possibly showcasing some of Apple's technology in Volkswagen vehicles. Will it also be glossy white and have a scroll wheel for a steering wheel, I wonder?

Right now, the talks are at their earliest stage and neither wants to confirm anything beyond admitting "scores of ideas". Experts believe that an Apple package upgrade in a compact car like, say, the GTI would entice more of the YouTube generation to look more into the brand.

A similar partnership occurred between Ford and Microsoft. The end result is Ford Sync, which enables easy access to music on mp3 players, mobile phone commands, and is completely voice-activated. Given Apple's innovative nature, I'm pretty sure Volkswagen can top Ford on this one.

Winterkorn reveals some juicy Mk. VI Golf info

We always love it when we get more information about a certain upcoming model. And it's even that much better when the information comes directly from those who should know like, say, the company's CEO. Volkswagen's CEO Martin Winterkorn did just that and revealed some key information about the forthcoming Mk. VI Golf.

First and foremost, we now have a launch window. We can expect a road-going version sometime in the fall of next year, in Europe of course. We already knew the extent of the changes that will take place on the Mk. VI Golf. We know that the exterior will change in some way but in what way, we don't know. We also don't know the fate of the Golf's interior. Well, Winterkorn revealed nothing by way of what the headlights will look like or what the grille will be but one thing's for sure, he ordered his designers not to slap on a chrome grille on the Golf. Now, whether that means the end of the infamous Volkswagen grille, that remains to be seen. But for the Golf, it definitely will not make an appearance. As for the interior, Winterkorn also ordered his designers to leave it alone.

With regards to engines, the Mk. V engines should carry over and might receive a slight power boost. GTI and R32 will also be carried over but the later will be replaced with a more powerful R36 by decade's end.

A fall 2008 launch should mean we see an official concept at the Geneva Auto Show in March of next year.

Volkswagen finds highest mileage diesel in the US

Volkswagen's far-reaching search is now over as they have located the highest mileage diesel in the US: a 1986 Jetta owned by Syl Schmid of Blue Rock, Ohio. So exactly how much miles has Schmid clocked on his Jetta? Try more than half a million miles at 562,000 miles. And amazingly, Schmid is the original owner. Schmid's Jetta really is a testament to exactly how economical a diesel is. In all those years of logging on more than 500,000 miles, Schmid managed more than 50 mpg in fuel consumption. That's excellent in today's standards. In recognition of having the highest mileage diesel in America, Schmid gets to drive a Touareg V10 TDI for six months.

Volkswagen launched a campaign to find the and highest mileage diesel in the US back in January.

Press release after the jump.

1986 Volkswagen Jetta Has 562,000 Miles On The Original Engine

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Volkswagen of America, Inc. announced that, as part of its Diesel Heritage Search, it has located the highest mileage Volkswagen diesel vehicle in the United States, a 1986 Jetta Turbo Diesel owned by Syl Schmid of Blue Rock, Ohio with over 562,000 miles.

The Jetta’s mileage was recently verified by Volkswagen of America, Inc. and Byers Imports, a Columbus, Ohio-based Volkswagen dealer. Fuel and mileage records presented by Schmid show the Jetta frequently delivered fuel economy over fifty miles per gallon.

“Mr. Schmid has a story that is like so many of our diesel owners; he loves the longevity of the engine and fuel economy that his diesel Volkswagen has delivered these last twenty years,” said Steve Keyes, Volkswagen Public Relations Director. “Throughout all of entries that we received for our Diesel Heritage Search, we found many VW owners who were passionate about their cars and the economic benefits of the diesel engine.”

Schmid originally leased the Jetta for three years and decided to purchase the vehicle at the end of that period. After twenty years, and over a half million miles, he is especially proud of the original drivetrain and muffler. In recognition of owning the highest mileage Volkswagen diesel in the U.S., Volkswagen has provided Schmid with a Touareg V10 TDI to drive for six-months.

Volkswagen announced their Diesel Heritage Search in March 2007 and received more than 200 entries for the highest mileage and oldest operating U.S. diesel Volkswagen vehicles. Volkswagen recently recognized a 1977 Rabbit owned by Clint Wilson of Tehachapi, Calif. as the oldest diesel Volkswagen.

Volkswagen is a leader in the U.S. diesel passenger car market with over 815,000 diesel vehicles sold since the introduction of the 1977 Rabbit, the first U.S. Volkswagen diesel. In addition to the currently available diesel Touareg V10 TDI, Volkswagen has previously announced that the 2009 Jetta and Jetta SportWagen, which will be available late first quarter 2008, will feature a Clean Diesel TDI engine option.

Founded in 1955, Volkswagen of America, Inc. is headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan. It is a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, headquartered in Wolfsburg, Germany. Car posts more Passat Coupé spyshots and details

Funny what 24 hours can bring. Just yesterday, the Passat Coupé was at the back of all our minds. Now, we are inundated with spyshots of said coupé, beginning with yesterday's shots that didn't reveal anything except what the Coupé's lines will be. Today, CAR published additional spyshots of the Passat Coupé on their website. This time, we can accurately judge the proportions of the car thanks to that nice side shot that CAR was able to procure. No doubt, the Passat Coupé looks much better from these pictures.

CAR also revealed some information on the Passat Coupé's front end. Apparently, it will be a departure from the regular Passat as the Passat Coupé (that name, by the way, is the working name within Volkswagen) will feature double, semi-circular headlights with "eyelash" indicators (when I read that, this immediately came to mind. Not good). CAR also had some insights about the Passat Coupé's engine choices which, they claim, will include a the 3.6L 280 hp V6 and/or a purported turbocharged version that could churn out 400 hp.

One thing of interest is Volkswagen's claim that the Passat Coupé is the first five-door coupé. Basically, push the button on the trunk once and a regular trunk pops open but push it twice, and the rear window opens with it, thus making it hatchback-like. Neat.

Again, however, no time frame wash indicated for when we could expect it on the streets or, at the very least, at an auto show introduction. As it stands, we expect it sometime in 2008.

Passat coupé spyshots finally taken

It seems nowadays that confirmation a vehicle exists, short of an official announcement from the company itself, comes in a form of spyshots. So when no spyshots of the forthcoming four-door coupé Passat had been taken after some time of its announcement, one had to wonder whether it actually even existed. Well, it does and we have proof.

Hans G Lehmann's expert camera skills was able to capture the Passat coupé being tested and sported the usual camo fore and aft so nothing of importance could be distinguished. However, for once it wasn't the design of the front or rear that we wanted to see but rather the roof line itself. Remember, this is suppose to be a four-door coupé to compete with the Mercedes Benz CLS so the roof line is all important in distinguishing it from a regular Passat. I can say that the section from the C-pillar back is different, beginning with a different door cutout and C-pillar than the Passat. The rear deck also seems shorter.

There is a lot we don't know about this model like engines or price. Some think that a price hovering around US$40,000 is not out of the question, considering this is being positioned above a regular Passat. Expect the four-door coupé to show up in 2008.

Volkswagen finds oldest diesel in America

After months of searching, researching, and validating, Volkswagen has finally found part of what it's looking for. In California, a man owns the oldest Volkswagen diesel in America: a 1977 Rabbit owned by one Clint Wilson. The Rabbit was apparently in very good condition. In recognition for having the oldest diesel Volkswagen in the US, Volkswagen is giving Wilson a Touareg V10 TDI to drive for six months.

Now, Volkswagen is looking for the highest mileage diesel Volkswagen, as it continues what it had set out to do in January after unveiling a Clean TDI Jetta in Washington, DC.

Press release follows after the jump.

1977 Volkswagen Rabbit Recognized As Oldest Volkswagen Diesel

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Volkswagen of America, Inc. announced that, as part of its diesel heritage search, it has located the oldest operating Volkswagen diesel vehicle in America, a 1977 Rabbit owned by Clint Wilson of Tehachapi, Calif. The Rabbit's was recently verified by Volkswagen of America and Family Volkswagen, a Bakersfield, Calif. based auto dealer.

“Diesel engines are noted for their long-term reliability and durability, so we didn’t think it would be a problem to find a 1977 Rabbit that was still in great condition, like this one,” said Steve Keyes, Volkswagen Public Relations Director. “The entries for the oldest (and the soon to be announced highest mileage search) not only represent cars that were well-built and well-maintained they are also interesting stories from people who are passionate about Volkswagens and diesel.”

In recognition of owning the oldest Volkswagen diesel in the U.S., Volkswagen has provided Wilson with a new Touareg V10 TDI to drive for six-months. In addition to his 1977 Rabbit, Wilson also owns a Beetle that he is hoping to restore in the near future.

Volkswagen is a leader in the U.S. diesel passenger vehicle market with over 815,000 diesel vehicles sold since the 1977 Rabbit, the first U.S. Volkswagen diesel. In addition to the currently available diesel Touareg V10 TDI, Volkswagen has previously announced that the 2009 Jetta and Jetta Sportwagen, which will be available late first quarter of 2008, will feature a clean diesel TDI engine.

Founded in 1955, Volkswagen of America, Inc. is headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan. It is a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, headquartered in Wolfsburg, Germany. Volkswagen previews Golf BlueMotion before Frankfurt Show

Volkswagen is giving us a preview of one of the six BlueMotion intros that will take place at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month will be a Golf BlueMotion. Not really ground-breaking, really. In fact, it was just a matter of time.

What is ground-breaking, however, are the numbers. The Golf BlueMotion sips fuel at a rate of 52.3 mpg and expells just 119 g/km of CO2, besting a regular Golf TDI's 46.1 mpg and 135 g/km. Distances of more than 745 miles are now possible on just one tank of diesel.

Those numbers were achieved by modifying engine management systems to reduce speed at idle, use of particulate filters for emissions, longer gear ratios at third, fourth, and fifth, and a modified exterior along the lines of the Polo BlueMotion's, where every effort was made to make the vehicle as slippery as possible.

The new Golf BlueMotion's engine will be a 105 hp TDI engine and should start at €20,615 when it goes on sale in Germany by the end of this year.

Press release after the jump.

- 4.5 liter fuel consumption and 119 g/km CO2: New Golf BlueMotion sets environmentally-friendly benchmarks in the compact class

- BlueMotion fireworks: Besides the Golf, Volkswagen will be presenting five other BlueMotion models at the IAA

Wolfsburg, Germany – Volkswagen will be firing off the next salvo of its BlueMotion offensive at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt. In total, six new models with technology that is as economical as it is environmentally friendly, will debut at the world’s largest car show. One of the highlights there: The new Golf BlueMotion. At just 4.5 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers, its fuel consumption has been reduced by a full 0.6 liters compared to the original model. Similarly, CO2 emissions have been reduced from 135 g/km to 119 g/km. Actions taken on the BlueMotion make it so efficient that now distances of more than 1,200 kilometers are possible on just one Golf tank of fuel (55 liter). Market introduction of the Golf BlueMotion is scheduled for the end of this year in Germany.

Details of the new Golf BlueMotion: After the Polo, Passat and Passat Variant, the Golf is now the fourth Volkswagen to wear the new BlueMotion environmental badge on its radiator grille and rear hatch that identifies it as the most economical model of the car series. The Golf BlueMotion is driven by a TDI with 77 kW / 105 PS and a hefty 250 Newton-meter of torque that has already achieved recognition as an efficient engine.

A software intervention in engine management reduces the idling speed of this diesel combined with a particulate filter and simultaneously improves its emission behavior. With longer gear ratios in third, fourth and fifth gears, engine speed levels are also lower while driving. These actions alone reduce consumption by about 0.2 liter.

Less apparent but no less necessary for a plus in economy are the thoroughly trimmed and thereby flow-optimized underbody as well as the nearly enclosed radiator grille. To ensure that the TDI engine still gets enough cooling air, the Golf BlueMotion has an effective dual fan. Thanks to aerodynamic design measures, including lowering of the chassis, the cW value of 0.32, which in itself is a good value, was further improved to 0.30.

In the hunt for every gram of CO2 Volkswagen is also relying on light-running tires, size 195 / 65 R 15, optimized for rolling resistance; they are driven at higher air pressure, elevated by 0.3 bar. When all of the modifications come together in the end product, the top speed of the Golf rises from 187 km/h to an electronically limited 190 km/h.

When it comes to equipment options, the Golf BlueMotion customer can choose between the Trendline and Comfortline. In addition to basic equipment, equipment of the BlueMotion specification is also on-board. The base price of the Golf BlueMotion Trendline is 20,615 euro and this makes it just 315 euro more than the base price of a Golf 1.9 TDI Trendline. When adjustments are made for equipment options, the BlueMotion is even more economical than previous TDI versions with 105 PS and soot particulate filter. Besides the aerodynamic modifications already mentioned, standard equipment includes the Multifunctional Display Plus (MFA Plus) with gear recommendation arrow and a sports chassis. Thanks to its attractive price positioning, the purchase of a Golf BlueMotion already pays off from the first kilometer – and not just for the environment, but also for customers’ budgets.

DARPA Urban Challenge 2007 - Passat Wagon "Junior" Qualifiys for next Stage

Self-driving prototype masters town traffic situations under competitive conditions

Wolfsburg, 10 August 2007 - The participants for the Urban Challenge have been named. All participating vehicles were tested by the DARPA* in the so-called "Site Visit" on 14th June 2007. "Junior", a Passat wagon made by Volkswagen, has now been officially nominated for the next stage. It will take place from October, 26th till 31th 2007 and the final will be 3rd November 2007 in Victorville, CA near Los Angeles.

The Passat, which was built by Volkswagen Group Research and its ERL (Electronics Research Laboratory) in California, was made in cooperation with Stanford University (USA). Vehicles have to travel, without a driver, over a distance of approximately 60 miles in an urban environment. Keeping to all applicable traffic regulations, the vehicles have to drive in normal traffic, follow the rules for the right of way, cross over busy intersections and drive round roundabouts. The winner is the team whose vehicle completes this task first.

Volkswagen's team already demonstrated its skill when "Stanley", a Volkswagen Touareg TDI, won the first race for self-driven vehicles at the last DARPA Grand Challenge in October 2005. The course for that race went through 132 miles of the Mojave Desert to the south of Las Vegas. Stanley functioned absolutely perfectly and won the race after six hours and 54 minutes.

VW Constellation 370 Revealed (9.3L / 57 Tonne)

This is the new Constellation 370 the one that I've been waiting for along time.

It has the biggest engine (9.3L) VW have ever designed with 367hp and the capacity to have a GCM of 57 Tonne.

The Constellation 370 will surely be the new Pride and Joy from VW's Truck and Bus division in Brazil.

Read on for Full Press Release.....

. Innovative Technology with the VW NGD 370 engine
. Strong, modern and comfortable models
. The market’s best cost effectiveness
. Traction options: 4X2, 6X2 e 6X4

Volkswagen Trucks and Buses presents to Brazilian fleet owners and carriers additional three models of trucks from the Constellation line. The vehicles VW 19.370, VW 25.370 and VW 31.370 arrive at the market through a brand’s world launching. Technology, productivity and the best cost-effectiveness still guide the philosophy of Volkswagen products, a company that along four and a half years is leading the domestic sales of trucks over five tons of total gross weight.

The big news is the arrival of the 367 horsepower VW NGD 370 engine with several technological improvements. Developed by Volkswagen Trucks and Buses, and produced by MWM International, the new motor running is the result of 38 thousand hours of engineering work and over 3.5 million kilometers of tests in the roughest conditions. The new Constellation trucks employ the VW NGD 370 in the versions mechanical horse 4X2, mechanical horse 6X2, and rigid chassis 6X4.

Such launchings provide the Constellation line with nine basic models from 13 to 57 tons of total gross weight, and may be acquired with cabins in versions bed or extended. Adding optional systems such as the VOLKSNET hybrid system (via satellite and cell phone) for fleet tracking and management, the Volkswagen original accessories, the VOLKSTOTAL plan of post sales assistance, the 24 hours free assistance in guarantee CHAMEVOLKS, and a net of 142 authorized dealers throughout the country, the brand enhances the number of solutions in custom-made transportation for the consumer.

Clients may also choose the versatility of the light Delivery Trucks and the strong and recognized Worker line that add 19 basic models to the Volkswagen Trucks family. All designed and assembled in Resende (RJ) plant that also incorporates the World Center for Trucks and Buses Development of Volkswagen Group.

Brazil: growth pushes the Trucks industry

An exceptional crop of grains, the accelerated growth of the oil extraction and the production of biological fuel demand more agility and skill for cargo transportation among farming, industrial and ports zones in Brazil. The Plan for Growth Increase – PAC – of the Federal Government, the new impulse in Brazilian civil construction through governmental incentives for self-owned homes, and the cattle breeding industry due to the development of the export of beef and its by-products are enhancing the Trucks market expansion in 2007.

Additionally, the Brazilian Transit Council – Contran – edited the resolutions number 210 and 211 establishing new limits for weight and dimensions of vehicles traveling by road and rail networks. One of the most important measures has established the increase of the combined total gross weight – PBTC – from 45 to 57 tons to use articulated vehicles, tractor and tug vehicles with two units.

Once more, Volkswagen Trucks and Buses meets the market requirements by increasing its competitiveness thus providing new alternatives to its clients. And such alternatives came through three new members of Constellation family: VW 19.370, VW 25.370 and VW 31.370. The brand is now in an intermediate segment between 300 and 400 horsepower.

VW NGD 370 motor, the category’s most innovative one

The VW NGD 370 engine presents pioneering characteristics to the heavy trucks sector. The high “flat” torque at low rotation is improved by a variable geometry turbo-compressor: the Multi Turbo System - MTS. The cylinder head with four valves by cylinder, the 9,354 cm3 (9.3 liters), 367 horsepower at 2000 rpm, and the Dual Power Brake – DPB – are additional characteristics.

The new motor running counts on an exclusive injection system, the Hydraulic Electronic Unit Injector - HEUI – at high pressure, with electro-hydraulic digital injectors and extended durability, developed by the partner company Siemens/VDO. This new motor running is lighter than the motor running of its direct competitors, and presents the advantage of removable wet lining that guarantee easy maintenance and lower costs.

The Multi Turbo System turbine – MTS – with variable geometry system is electronically controlled thus guaranteeing faster responses, better performance and retaking, in addition to better thermal efficiency. This component also operates as engine brake in the exhaust system. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation system – EGR – is a re-circulator and re-cooler coupled with the block that reutilizes part of the exhaustion emissions which get back to the camera, producing combustion at lower temperatures with less discharge rates.

The new engine brake system of the Dual Power Brake cylinder head – DPB – activates the engine’s cylinder head that is electronically integrated into the turbine. Its advantages are: increasing the operational average speed, the brake force, safety, retaking with fuel reduction, and speed on downward slopes. Presenting less gear shifts, low maintenance costs, and improved brakes and tires service life.

Transmission and clutch

The transmission applied to the new extra-heavy Constellation is the modern ZF 16S 1685 TD with 16 synchronized gears. With excellent variation of gears and high torque capacity (1800 Nm), its aluminum crankcase is 80 kg lighter than the model used so far in the brand’s heavy models. It has an assisted pneumatic coupling system that assures further precision and comfort at gear shifting. The transmission lubricating oil cooler allows bigger changing intervals, since such transmission functions at lower temperatures thus resulting in longer service life.

The Sachs clutch presents a series assembly that facilitates maintenance and interchangeability with the high ton segment: pull type activating bearing, pneumatically assisted hydraulic running, diaphragm type plate with printed case and shock pre-absorbing disc, 430 mm diameter and Sachs 620 C friction material.

Comfortable suspension and strong shafts

On the new Constellation 6X2 models the rear suspension is the rocking arm type that reduces the suspension movement during high torque thus reducing cabin vibrations and improving the driver’s comfort. The 4X2 tractor has series rear suspension with two pneumatic cushions and tensioning springs, double action telescopic shock absorbers and standard Panhard bars – optionally there is the metallic suspension with leaf spring.

The 6X2 counts on Meritor MS 23-185 tractive rear axles with maximum capacity of 60 tons, and series differential transversal blocking system to the VW 25.370 tractor. Such system assures better traction in mudholes, slippery roads or upward slopes. The differential block is activated through a button pressed by the driver on the cabin panel.

A device for partial or total lifting of the third axle allows the Constellation 6X2 vehicles to have also better traction. The Extra Traction Device - ETD – ensures part of the third axle load, during partial lifting, to be transferred to the tractive axle. It is also easily operated by a button on the panel, and assuring maximum traction efficiency on slopes.

The 6X4 models have Meritor MD/MR 25-168 tractive rear axles jointed with the strong and well known Randon rear suspension (bogie type rigid shafts in tandem).

Braking Safety

The Volkswagen launchings present a braking system with primary, secondary and regenerative reservoirs with 10 bar working pressure that increase the compressed air volume and improve its performance. The hand valves installed on the panel both for handbrakes and semi-trailer brakes allows safe driving for vehicles.

On the front wheels the brake housings and brake pads are integrated with those of the VW 19.320 Titan Tractor. On the rear wheels the housings are Master HO that allows the vehicle to park on 12% slopes using the handbrakes.

The air dryer is standard equipment to all new models, and the Consep (oil separator) valve system is an optional system.

Diverse alternatives of fuel tanks

The VW Constellation 19.370 models offer the following alternatives to install fuel tanks: one plastic 275 liters reservoir, two plastic 275 liters tanks totalizing 550 liters or a 480 liters aluminum reservoir. On the 25 tons models there are two aluminum tanks with interlinking valve totaling 620 liters. And on the VW 31.370 there is the option to install one or two plastic reservoirs with respectively 275 liters or 550 liters of fuel. All options may be translated into vast launching autonomy.

Cabin presents also new items

Among the novelties of new Volkswagen Constellation extra-heavy trucks there are the guarantees of a 4X2 model capacity of pulling a semi-trailer with 30 pallets, and a 6X2 truck towing a 28 pallets trailer or a B-train attached to 7.8 meters long wagons – both vehicles using bed type cabins.

The cabin is the great trump card of the Constellation line due to its excellent ergonomics, easy checking of daily maintenance items, hydraulic tipping, instrument panel with inboard computer, perfect thermal-acoustic insulation and six years guarantee against perforating corrosion. All trucks are offered with the options for bed or stretched cabin.

Launchings have the new High Comfort cabin suspension system with regulated front and rear shock absorbers. This item is standard for the 25 tons models thus causing them to be the most comfortable trucks of the Brazilian market sector. The equipment is optional for the 19 and 31 tons products. New buttons to start the transversal blocking of the differential, to activate the engine brake, and to control the maximum traction also complete the instrument panel to the driver.

The Constellation Volkswagen trucks equipped with stretched cabin have an important optional item: a pliable bed frequently required by carriers and professional drivers, which provides more comfort for the resting period during their travels. Seeing that it is 1.95 meter long and 620 cm wide, the flat bed is vertically fixed behind the driver and the passenger seats when the vehicle is in motion.

The cabin tipping of the Constellation extra-heavy trucks will be safer due to a key installed on the hydraulic pump that restrains violations and vandalism acts in addition to an involuntary procedure. Additionally to these novelties, the 19 and 25 tons vehicles will have optional long distance headlights.

VOLKSNET, real time technology

Together with the new Constellation extra-heavy, Volkswagen Trucks and Buses has a real time safety, telemetry, tracking and monitoring solution: VOLKSNET. It is an industry’s original solution platform that uses the highest technology to meet all the transportation market needs.

Allowing total coverage throughout Brazil and international routes, VOLKSNET is a tool that offers to users the possibility of complete management and control of fleet and of the driver’s performance, as well as the total control of cargo transported along the daily 24 hours. Developed according the requirements of insurance and risk management Companies, the VOLKSNET optimize the transportation operations through information derived from its system.

A fleet manager may, in real time, obtain data such as the vehicle location, fuel consumption, speed, alerts, breaches related to bad driving, sudden braking, and motion in neutral gear.

Totally developed in Brazil, the VOLKSNET kit is offered with the following components: a communication module, a GPS localizing antenna, a GPRS communication antenna, an alphanumerical keyboard, and optionally an Inmarsat D+ satellite antenna. The VOLKSNET is also prepared to receive the installation of all accessories that may be required by insurance and risk management Companies, such as lockers.

The VOLKSNET has safety software that meets the market demands and allows the risk management Companies to supervise and manage the cargo transportation with perfect interaction and communication with driver and vehicle through instructions, messages, and definition of safety rules.

And the VOLKSNET Internet Portal is a service offered by Volkswagen Trucks and Buses to users having password access. Such service will meet the telemetry and logistics needs through management reports of the main items of the vehicle operation and alarms.

The assembling company is also able to install the VOLKSNET on Constellation models with 250 hp and 320 hp Cummins motor.

Volkswagen cuts ties with Bluetec

Volkswagen and Mercedes hasn't even had the chance to consummate their relationship with a release of Volkswagen's first model, a Jetta, with the Bluetec badge and already they're going their separate ways.

Volkswagen is now announcing that they will be leaving the Bluetec Alliance and will not use the name in its future diesel models, such as the Tiguan. Volkswagen stated that the Bluetec name may be too aligned with Mercedes Benz as a reason to their actions. Volkswagen, instead, will keep the more familiar TDI nomenclature for their future diesel models.

Now, it's not known whether Volkswagen will just be dropping the name or the technology itself. One would think that leaving the Alliance would also means leaving the technology at the door as well.

Neeza purportedly given the the greenlight

Details remain sketchy however China Car Times is reporting that the Neeza concept, shown back in November of last year, has been given the greenlighted for production, which should begin early next year.

The Neeza Concept, if you will recall, was designed in China and will most likely remain there once it hits the streets. Feel left out? China is fast becoming, if not already, Volkswagen's and other car manufacturer's largest market.

Eos practically sold out in Canada

Volkswagen must be as shocked as we are. It seems that the Eos is selling well in Canada. So well, in fact, that Canada is already nearly sold out of the convertible and it all happened without any launch campaign. Volkswagen Canada, which was planning a launch campaign for the Eos, has decided to scrap it because it seemed to be doing just fine without it.

It is rare for a new model, like the Eos, to garner such attention without any marketing whatsoever. It just goes to show, all you need is a good car at a good price and the rest will just fall into place.

Volkswagen to make a big splash at Frankfurt

After a disappointing showing at this year's Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen is taking everyone by surprise after revealing that more than 50 models will be on display at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The best part? Eight of those will be world premieres. Volkswagen has a lot to show us come September.

It had been purported that a rear-engined, Beetle-like model will make a comeback on the Volkswagen lineup. Well, Volkswagen confirmed just that by announcing that a model tentatively called City Expert will be a "future compact model" as it is officially called. It would be a subcompact that could probably compete with either the Mini or something smaller like the Smart ForTwo. Price and consumption will be kept to a minimum as well. It has been said that this is the answer to the "Polo in the US" question but that is not confirmed.

The second premiere is the production Tiguan, which we have already seen. This just makes it officially public. The other six premieres involve Volkswagen's BlueMotion model line. We don't know, however, which models will be getting the green badge or if any of those models will make it to our side. Volkswagen is trying to make up for lost time in the US after having issues with the EPA and the switch to common rail and Bluetec. With those hurdles out of the way, Volkswagen might be more willing to ship over BlueMotion models as they come out.

From what we've heard so far, Volkswagen has made up for Geneva. I just can't wait to see what's in store at Frankfurt. The Frankfurt Motor Show begins September 13.
